Drugs were not uncommon in Kowloon Walled City. One might say they used to be more common. When I was growing up, my mother took great pains to keep me on most of the higher floors of the building, and even the rooftops. Even though no police would care enough to go past our walls, the most suspicious dealings still happened in the dark. Now that my mother and I were both older, I took over a lot of tasks for her, and I saw more of what she must have seen in our early years after moving in.
